assembly
the idea
tor+shells frames are assembled manually by six people in four hours in a hybrid choreography that has the quality of a performance.
they can be directly placed on level natural surfaces such as stone, sand or grass for an organic and integrated feel.
alternatively on inclined ground, or for more formal events the shell can be assembled on a rigid timber deck.
the cupola is self supporting, but depending on the wind forecast and level of covering, might require to be held down by water ballast or staking.

cupolas go beyond the typical improvisations of the plan b, allowing events to unfold as scripted despite changes in the weather.
there are three options for covering the shell, each producing different qualities and allowing the event to articulate contrasting experiences and to adapt to changing scenarios.

if the weather is perfect and the guests would like to celebrate under the sky, then the timber cupola articulates the event space, allowing the decoration and lighting and to be suspended, constituting a sense of enclosure, and gathering the guests within the vastness of the outdoors.

transparent
if rain is forecast, or excessive dew or wind, then a transparent film can be stretched over the timber frame to protect the guests without losing the immersive relationship with the surroundings.
03/
shade
daytime events can be protected from the sun by a translucent membrane whose ochre colour generates shade and a tone of light in which every face radiates.
04/
transformation
different combinations of surfaces allow cupola spaces to be customized to the specific qualities of each event. additionally the different covers can be exchanged in under an hour, allowing the qualities of the spaces to evolve with the rhythm of the event.

the cupolas come in different models and sizes, and can be rented and organized in different combinations responding to the specific timeline and scale of each event.
larger events can be accommodated by link panels that integrate a series of cupolas into one continuous space, either end to end, or side by side. the links can act as entrance and distribution points, and separate cupolas can be individually themed, generating unique timelines. porticos can be added to expand capacity, and allow the integration of additional activities such as a stage or a buffet.
